We’re pretty partial to developer podcasts. They’re great for commuting or delivering some inspiration when you’re out for a jog. Here are a few developer podcasts that the Touchtap team can’t get enough of.
How I Built This by NPR
You might know Guy Raz from the TED Radio hour, but he also hosts another of NPR’s most popular podcasts: How I Built This. In each 30-minutes segment the show takes listeners through an in-depth dive into the stories behind some of the world’s biggest companies. Founders, innovators and entrepreneurs chat to Guy about achieving success in verticals in tech and beyond.
Developer Tea through Spec.fm
Hosted by Jonathan Cutrell, Developer Tea gives listeners bite-sized insights into life as a software developer. Short interviews and think pieces about thinking, working and problem-solving better are the name of the game here. Developer Tea is a podcast that offers plenty of food for thought that can be applied not just in tech, but in just about any career or industry today.
Design Details through Spec.fm
Also through Spec.fm, Design Details is for the UX designers out there. Focused on design and culture, it’s like eavesdropping on a casual UX meetup. In each free-wheeling session, hosts Marshall Bock and Brian Lovin chat with expert guests about design problems, trends and and solutions.
The Top Entrepreneurs in Money, Marketing, Business and Life
Hosted by Nathan Latka, “The Top” is a daily podcast with 15-minute interviews with founders, CEOs and entrepreneurs who are all at the top of their game. Here you’ll get an insider’s view into what it takes to get to the top. Not to mention tips on how to get there yourself.
Courtland Allen of Indie Hackers has interviewed hundreds of devs about turning a side gig into a profitable business. Guests range from those dabbling in a low-key side project to CEOs running business empires. It’s also actionable: here the emphasis is on how to design, build and market a business of your own. Topics include blogging, bootstrapping, building an audience and more.
Startup by Gimlet
Gimlet Media’s Startup is a narrative documentary series about, you guessed it, startups. Hosted by Alex Blumberg (of This American Life fame) and Lisa Chow, the first two seasons take an in-depth look at launching Gimlet Media and the Dating Ring. The third looks at a different startup per episode.
Things are pretty dark on the other side of the web. Darknet Diaries is a foray into topics such as hacking, cryptography, botnets and more. Told in This American Life fashion by cybersecurity expert Jack Rhysider, Darknet Diaries combines storytelling and investigation to deliver astonishing stories from the darknet.
Laroche.fm is where creatives gather to chew the fat. Hosted by Eugen Esanu, Creative Director of Laroche.co, the podcast features wide-ranging conversations with designers, authors and entrepreneurs about UX, design thinking, workplace culture and more.
